How does one prepare crisis counselors for the unique challenges of working within marginalized communities and those suffering through recent current events?

New York State Office of Mental Health, Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, and the Center for Practice Innovations in support of NY Project Hope a crisis counseling program funded by FEMA and administered by SAMHSA needed a learning solution that would address complicated issues including grief, PTSD, depression, racial justice, and the impact of the pandemic to make a positive change. Additionally, the training had to be easily accessible and readily integrated into busy schedules.

The AllenComm team created a digital learning solution in our cutting-edge authoring platform DesignLab in multiple languages to ensure that it would be accessible to busy mental health professionals.


The training includes learning modules with accessibility features and interactive activities, motion graphics, narrated animations, interviews, demonstrations, and feedback for learners to provide experiential learning that would both engage and aid with memory retention.

  • Empowering 700 Crisis Counselors in NYS to promote widespread, positive change for marginalized populations and those suffering during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Increasing the number of crisis counselors meeting the listen, validate, share, plan requirements on phone calls within weeks after the training
