BD, a market leader in developing high-quality medical devices and disposables for ultrasound-guided peripheral access catheters (UGPAC), was spending over 16 hours with healthcare professionals in face-to-face Customer Service Representative (CSR) training sessions to review and teach their devices. The training was costly, inconvenient for healthcare providers’ hectic schedule, and led to many nurses and clinicians abandoning the training before they completed it.

BD challenged AllenComm to come up with a solution that could cut face-to-face training time in half while significantly increasing nurse and clinician training enrollment and completion rate—helping to ensure healthcare providers felt comfortable utilizing the UGPAC and expanding BD’s market share in disposables.

AllenComm Solution

AllenComm applied a web-based microlearning approach—allowing start and stop features—that gave nurses the flexibility to fit the training into their very busy schedules. In addition, the training was designed to boost interest, motivation, and confidence by appealing to the values that drive health care professionals as well as illustrating the key advantages of BD’s ultrasound-guided access. The training also included self-assessments to help learners gauge their readiness for their face-to-face CSR interactions.

Learners were able to:

  • Access the learning content and activities across a wireless connection on mobile devices
  • Choose what learning content to review and when to view it
  • Self-assess their skills and familiarity with products and procedures on their own
  • Become well prepared and highly motivated to train without the need for CSRs to invest more time in face-to-face training.
  • Feel confident and motivated to utilize BD’s UGPAC technology on patients

The course and activities are aimed to help new and existing Beautycounter consultants successfully:

  • Set themselves on a fast track for advancing to the Managing Director title with the guidance and resources they need
  • Prepare themselves for any client conversations by referencing product information, sales tactics, and built-in training tools at home or on the go
  • Self-evaluate and set goals by using the My Regimen action planner, which strengthens their critical thinking skills and extends the training journey far beyond the time spent taking the courses
