  1. Good points. Recently I repurposed a 2-day (and a 16 hour live online version) course as 20 short 5-20 minute modules. They had to be standalone so employees could select what performance development they want when they want it. Two strategies that helped — and that the client really liked:

    – I turned the module topics or sub-topics into action verbs and sequenced them into a typical workflow. E.g., “Delegation” into steps like 1) Match tasks with employee skill level or career interest, 2) Clarify needed results and required strategies vs. opportunities for employee to discuss how to implement, etc.

    – Within each eLearning unit, I used the 4-step training structure for skill development that could adapt to the subject, e.g. screen/slide 1: a crisis or challenging goal the employee may have and options – how to handle/positive results that preview a key concept/strategy or consequences of lack of skill; 2: demo of how to achieve the results with inductive reasoning exercise about why the strategy works or how the concept can be applied to other work situations; 3: practice applying the concept/strategy/skill to work with feedback; 4: review, action plan and best practice guide to use as an on the job reminder.
