Lifelong Driver targets the leading causes of collisions involving older drivers through learning simulations of everyday scenarios, providing a safe place to practice before applying the skills on the road.

ELK GROVE, CA (February 2, 2012) ADEPT Driver (www.adeptdriver.com) is proud to announce the release of Lifelong Driver™ (www.lifelongdriver.com), a science-based program developed in cooperation with Allen Communication Learning Services to help drivers over 55 sharpen driving skills and stay safe behind the wheel longer. Lifelong Driver is designed specifically for seasoned drivers and targets the leading causes of collisions for drivers over 55. It combines computer-based training, including point-of-view driving simulations and interactive video segments, with at-home activities and optional in-car exercises.

“Crash rates for drivers 55 and over are second only to teen drivers, meanwhile our older driver population is growing and living longer,” said Richard Harkness, CEO and founder of ADEPT Driver. “Lifelong Driver targets the leading causes of collisions involving older drivers through simulations of everyday scenarios, providing a safe place to practice before applying the skills on the road. By helping older drivers maintain driving privileges and improve safety, Lifelong Driver preserves drivers’ freedom, mobility, and quality of life.”

By 2030, 71.5 million drivers, or approximately 1-in-4 people behind the wheel, will be age 65 or over. This fast-growing segment of our population is predicted to live 20% to 25% of their lives in active retirement. Lifelong Driver uses real-life driving situations to help experienced drivers improve their performance and avoid real-world accidents. The program is based on extensive research and input from world-recognized experts in the fields of medicine, psychology, traffic safety, occupational therapy and adult learning.

“Using today’s leading instructional and visualization strategies, we are able to place the users in the driver seat from the comfort of their own home,” said Ron Zamir, CEO of Allen. “Because Lifelong Driver uses real-life situations, drivers who use the program sharpen their skills quickly, and they retain their skills longer. The program is engaging so most people who start the program finish it — and reap the benefits.”

Lifelong Driver was created by the founders of ADEPT Driver (www.adeptdriver.com), the company that developed teenSMART®, a program that significantly reduces automobile crashes among teen drivers. Insurance claims for teens that have completed the teenSMART program have been reduced by 25% – 40%.
